Anatomy of a Web Cache Poisoning Attack

Web cache poisoning is a type of attack that targets the caching mechanisms used by web browsers, proxy servers, and other intermediaries to temporarily store and serve previously requested web content. The goal of a web cache poisoning attack is to trick a cache server into storing malicious content in its cache. When legitimate users later request the same resource, the cache server retrieves and serves the attacker’s malicious content from the cache instead of the intended content from the website’s origin server.
